Elizabeth(a.k.a. Betty) Jane Cummins
December 23, 1935 - January 5, 2013

Elizabeth"Betty" J. Cummins, 77, of Horseshoe Bend, AR, formerly of Lehigh, IA, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at her daughter's home in Fort Dodge surrounded by her family after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery, Lehigh. Visitation begins at 4:00 PM with a Vigil Service at 7:45 PM, followed by a time to share on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will be held in Horseshoe Bend at a later date.
Elizabeth Jane Lennon was born December 23, 1935, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Michael and Marie (Hollister) Lennon - and grew up on the family farm in Clare, IA. In 1954, she graduated from St. Mathews High School in Clare. Following graduation, she moved to Fort Dodge, where she met the love of her life - Harold Cummins - at a dance at the Laramar Ballroom. They were united in marriage on June 9, 1956, and moved to Lehigh in 1959.
Along with raising seven children, Betty worked as a telephone operator, hospital switchboard operator, field crew leader, Avon Representative, Globe Union Employee, and Midwest Truck Trader Employee. She found her niche as an award winning Realtor for Iowa Realty in Ft. Dodge. In 2004, she moved to Horseshoe Bend, AR, with Harold, where she worked as a Realtor for Scenic Realty. Her career was important and the word"retirement" had not entered her vocabulary.
Betty led a very active social life and was blessed with many wonderful friends. She loved gliding across the dance floor with Harold and spending time with her growing family. Betty was competitive and enjoyed golfing, playing Bunko with the "Bunko Babes" in Horseshoe Bend, pitching horseshoes, and cards - especially 500. She also enjoyed line dancing, traveling, watching "The Good Wife" on TV, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Betty was a devout Catholic and a member of the St. Mary of the Mount Church in Horseshoe Bend. She was also a member of the Turkey Mountain Golf Course, The Loft, and the Realtors Association.
Betty is survived by her husband of 56 years: Harold; 7 children: Rebecca (Misha Neininger) Cummins of Seattle, WA, Ronald (Michelle) Cummins of Harcourt, IA, Brenda Dahlstrom of Dayton, IA, Rodney Cummins of Lehigh, Deborah (James) Casey of Rockwell City, IA, Deanne Cummins of Fort Dodge and Russell (Wendy) Cummins of Seattle; 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Veronica Hinds of Fort Dodge, Catherine (Don) Schadegg of Pleasant Hill, CA, and Patricia Mikelson of Fort Dodge; 2 sisters-in-law: Vicki (Don) Rockafellow of Fort Dodge and Connie Slawson of Lehigh, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Harold's parents: Ivyl and Goldie Cummins; 5 brothers: Richard, John, William, James and Michael Lennon; 1 sister: Mary Margaret Lennon; 2 brothers-in-law: Lovell Cummins (Darlene) and Wilber Cummins; and 1 sister-in-law: Virginia Post (Bob).
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family or Trinity Hospice.
The family would like to thank her friends and family, including "Betty's Backers",for their prayers, comforting words and loving support. We would also like to thank the staff and volunteers at Trinity Regional Medical Center and Trinity Hospice.
She will be deeply missed and will remain forever in our hearts.
