Judith L. Johnson
February 16, 1940 - January 28, 2011

Judith Leona Johnson was born February 16, 1940 in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Eldon and Leona (Prange) Haas. Judy graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1958, and she continued her education at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1962.

Judy taught kindergarten in Humboldt, Iowa from 1962-1966. On June 25, 1966, Judy was united in marriage to Keith Ervin Johnson at Pioneer Methodist Church in Rock Valley, IA. The couple made their home in Emmetsburg. Judy taught kindergarten for one year in Algona, and she spent one year teaching second grade in Emmetsburg. She had a private pre-school in Emmetsburg for nineteen years (1966-1987). Judy was an assistant librarian at Iowa Lakes Community College from 1993 to 2005, and she taught piano lessons in her home from 1991 to 2010.

Judy was a member of PEO Chapter BK since 1969, the American Association of University Women since 1966, Palo Alto County Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club, Many Voices Choir and the United Church of Christ, Congregational Church of Algona, IA.

On January 28, 2011, Judy passed away at her home.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Keith of Emmetsburg; two sons: Darin and wife, Pam of Des Moines, IA and Brice and wife, Alva of Roswell, GA; grandchildren: Avery Johnson of Des Moines, Alexander and Penelope Johnson and Amari Lewis of Roswell, GA; brother, Phil Haas and his wife, Bettie of Winter Haven, FL; and two sisters-in-law: Karen Boyd and her husband, John of Pensacola, FL and Bonnie Beorkrem of Bettendorf, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Haas.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.
