Kathleen Elizabeth Frederick was born December 21, 1931, in Ruthven, Iowa, the daughter of William and Buelah (Lukens) Brennan. Kathleen attended Ruthven Community Schools until the 10th grade. She finished her education in Emmetsburg, graduating from St. Mary's Academy in 1950.
On May 27, 1952, Kathleen was united in marriage to Leland Frederick in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Ruthven, IA. To this union, eight children were born. Kathleen raised her family, and in 1984, she began working as a pharmacy technician at Eichelzer's Drug Store - later, Irv's Pharmacy. After retiring, she spent time volunteering at the Multipurpose Senior Center.
Kate was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed reading and traveling, but above all, Kathleen treasured the time she spent with her husband, Lee, her children and grandchildren. Among the many charities she supported and contributed to, Kate was especially proud of sponsoring Miguel Ramos through Childrens International in the Philippines, and she corresponded with him frequently for many years.
On Thursday, March 24, 2011, Kathleen passed away at the Parc Hall in Emmetsburg.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Lee of Emmetsburg; eight children: Mary Cooper (Dan) of Emmetsburg, Alice Haht (Jim) of Sutherland, Tom Frederick (Jackie) of Abilene, KS , John Frederick (Laurie) of Gilbert, AZ, Jim Frederick of Emmetsburg, Joe Frederick (Liane) of Salt Lake City, UT, Therese Schany (Chuck) of Spencer and Cathy Berkland (Roger) of Emmetsburg; three sisters: Mary Jean Gibson of Sac City, IA, Dorthea Rosacker of Ruthven and Margie TenEyck (George) of Cerritos, CA; brother, Bill Brennan of Spencer; sister-in-law, Janis "Jake" Brennan of Emmetsburg; 25 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Tom Brennan.
