Ivo "Ike" Schroeder, age 95, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2013. He was born on April 21, 1917, to Frances and Peter Schroeder in Alton, Iowa. After graduating from St. Mary's Academy, he began his banking career in Alton, until joining the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942. He was stationed in Savannah, Georgia, and while there married Marion Kooreman in 1943. After discharge from the service in 1946, Ike returned to banking joining the Brenton Banks, first in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and then transferring to Eagle Grove, Iowa, in 1950. It was there that he and Marion made their home and raised their family. After his retirement in 1974, they became permanent residents of Okoboji. Ike was a fun-loving, sociable man with a large circle of friends. During his life he was active in many civic and charitable organizations. He loved the game of golf and was an avid player having five holes-in-one. He also loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and attended hundreds of football games, including 5 Rose Bowls. by his brother Robert Schroeder of Palm Springs, California; 3 children, Carolyn (David) Langenbach of Glencoe, Illinois, Ed Schroeder (Tammy Jones) of New Richmond, Wisconsin, and Joe Schroeder of Houston, Texas; 5 grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Smith of Glenview, Illinois, Brad (Raechel) Langenbach of Glenview, Illinois, Michelle (Rick) Masters of Burlington, Iowa, Aubree Schroeder of Nashville, Tennessee, and Sarah Schroeder of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Braden, Andrew, Ava, Aiden, Colin and Brett. Ike was preceded in death by Marion, his wife of 61 years; his brother, Clarence; his sister, Marcene McCormick; and his parents. A Celebration of Life will be held in late Spring. Memorial donations can be made to Iowa Hospice, 1370 Lake Street, Spirit Lake, Iowa 51360. The Schuchert Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
