Edward Charles Sturm, Jr.

Age 93, passed away on May 14, 2012, in Prescott, Arizona. A nearly life-long resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Edward moved to Prescott in January 2011, to be closer to his nephew, Jack Lindloff. Edward was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, in 1918 and lived in Milwaukee for over 65 years. A lifelong bachelor, Edward was the son of Edward and Anna Sturm of Milwaukee and had two sisters Dorothy Lindloff and surviving sister Carol Harari of California.He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946 and left with the rank of CMAM (AA). He was stationed in various locations including Guam. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Edward worked for over 35 years for the State of Wisconsin, as a manager in the Unemployment Compensation Claims Department. A member of the old Perseverance Presbyterian Church on North 82nd Street, Edward joined the Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church after Perseverance was dissolved. After retiring, Edward volunteered at the Laubach Literacy Center in Milwaukee where he tutored students in subjects ranging from Algebra and Geometry, to U.S. History. A regular swimmer and ice skater, Edward enjoyed the outdoors, camping, time at the beaches and his favorite outing was to "go down to Lake Michigan" and relax. Blessed with excellent health and a trim physique, Edward would swim regularly at the YMCA pool and enjoy lunch afterwards with his swimming friends. He had a dry sense of humor and was very knowledgeable about the US and World History.Edward touched the lives of many and will be especially remembered by his surviving sister, Carol Harari; nephews Jack Lindloff (Prescott, AZ), Steven Harari (Loomis, CA), Paul Harari (Madison, WI) and Jim Harari (San Jose, CA); and niece Dawn Shegonee (McFarland, WI). He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Lindloff and niece Paulette Timm. A 90th birthday celebration in June 2008 saw over 50 relatives and friends attend and enjoy a day with Edward.Memorial Gathering at Luther Manor Faith and Education Building, 4545 North 92nd Street, Wauwatosa, (Please use North entrance) Saturday, May 26, 9:30-10:30 AM with a Memorial Service at 10:30 AM.
