Virgil Edward Hans Roenfeld, one of two children of Edward Paul and Laura E. (Scheel) Roenfeld, was born on March 16, 1928 near Glenwood, Iowa. He grew up in the Mineola area where he attended school through the 8th grade. Virgil farmed with his parents until his enlistment in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, Virgil returned to Iowa and farmed until his retirement. Virgil and Norma Ann Meisinger were married on October 12, 1952 in Louisville, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Annette, Giselle, and Vanessa. Virgil was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. He loved to go dancing, playing cards, and enjoyed social visits with his friends and family. Virgil was living in Council Bluffs, Iowa and had just recently entered the Tabor Manor Nursing Home in Tabor, Iowa. He passed away at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa, on March 28, 2013, at the age of 85 years and 12 days. and husband Stephen of La Jolla, CA, Giselle Roenfeld of Silver City, IA, and Vanessa Martin and husband Joe of Fontanelle, IA; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; four step grandchildren; other relatives; and a host of friends. Military Rites conducted by Mineola American Legion #705 at Mineola Cemetery. Memorials directed to the family. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Glenwood in charge of arrangements.
