Ruth Ann Berge

Ruth Ann (Nelson) Berge was born on October 21, 1943, in Heron Lake, Minnesota to Wilbert "Bill" and Thelma (Peterson) Nelson. She was baptized and later confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Heron Lake. Ruth attended Heron Lake Public School where she graduated with the Class of 1961 and was the Homecoming queen. After Ruth graduated from high school, she began working for Northwestern Bell in Windom from 1961 to 1982. On April 24, 1965, Ruth was united in marriage to John R. Berge. This marriage was blessed with two children, Michael and Kristine. After their marriage, Ruth continued working at Northwestern Bell until 1982. She then began to work for the Windom School system as a secretary in 1983. She worked there until she retired in 2007. In 1995, Ruth was diagnosed with breast cancer. She passed away at her home in Windom on Thursday evening, April 25, 2013, with her family by her side at the age of 69. Ruth was a longtime member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom where she was active in the church. o-chairperson for the 2012 Cottonwood County Relay for Life. Ruth enjoyed traveling and made many trips to California over the years. She enjoyed golfing, reading, swimming with her grandchildren, going to plays, and shopping with her family and friends. Ruth also enjoyed going out for lunches and dinners with her friends and family. She looked forward to "Grandma Camp" every summer with her grandchildren. Ruth loved spending time with her family, friends, and most of all her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-eight years, John Berge of Windom; one son, Michael Berge and his wife, Sandra, of Olivia; one daughter, Kristine Meier and her husband, Jeff, of Rogers; five grandchildren, Niko, Logan and Sierra Berge and Mackenzie and Marissa Meier; two sisters, Mary Jo Schmidt and her husband, Michael, of Okabena and Betty Fredin and her husband, Jeff, of Windom; one brother, Larry Nelson of Phoenix, AZ; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
