thers, Gene and Jim Northrop, niece Jeanie Northrop McCollough and several aunts, uncles and friends. Ethel Adel Northrop was born on April 16, 1936 in Fort Dodge. She was raised on a farm near Hardy and educated in the Vernon Consolidated Schools in Renwick. Ethel graduated from high school in 1954. On September 3, 1955, she was united in marriage to Clifton Carroll "Swede" Doyle at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The couple made their home on an acreage west of Humboldt. In 1995, the couple retired and moved into Humboldt. Ethel was employed for 36 years with Globe Union/Centralab, where she was equipment operator and machinist. She received several awards for quality workmanship. During her years at Globe Union, Ethel was a Chief Steward for the AFL-CIO and was dedicated to improving working conditions and benefits. She will be missed dearly by her co-workers who were an extended part of her family. Ethel organized the annual and monthly Centralab retiree luncheons for over 20 years. Ethel was a longtime member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Upon her retirement, she was an active volunteer at the church. Ethel was on the Stewardship Committee and the Head Usher for several years at the church. Ethel enjoyed visiting with and helping her friends and neighbors. She liked to attend EZ-Trim early every morning, which was followed by coffee with the "Naughty Table" friends at the Back Seat Diner. She was also a volunteer and supporter of the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. Ethel and Swede enjoyed attending auctions and gun shows. After Swede passed away, Ethel continued attending local auctions and enjoyed helping the girls at R&J Lunch Wagon. Ethel especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren by whom she was affectionately called "Gramma Go". Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
