John Donald Elkes, 83, of Hollywood, Florida passed away at his home on Sunday, May 12, 2013.
He was born in Socastee, South Carolina on October 24, 1929, son of John and Rena Bell (Dubose) Elkes.
John and his family moved to Lakeland, Florida and eventually moving to Miami in 1957 where they lived for 40 years. Before his retirement in 1993, John began his career with Seaboard Coast Line Railroad (Amtrak) where he worked for 35 years.
Survivors include his son, Michael Elkes, two grandchildren, Michael John and Brittany Elizabeth Elkes, three sisters, Gladys Henderson, Irene Ward and Betty Chambers and her husband Bill. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth (Tuttle) Elkes in 1985 and his second wife, Jesse (Stow) Elkes in 2008 and his son Bryce Elkes and daughter in law, Cheryl Leonard Elkes.
Visitation on Wednesday, May 15th from 11:00 ~ 1:00 P.M. at the Hollywood Church of Nazarene, 5901 Taylor Street in Hollywood with a funeral service at the church beginning at 1:00 O'clock.
