Donald N. Ernst, 78, of Andrew, Iowa, died on Friday morning, June 7, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. A celebration of Donald's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 11, 2013, from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Monday, June 10, 2013 from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa where a 6:45 P.M. Rosary Service will be held. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Andrew, Iowa. Donald Nicholas Ernst was born on December 29, 1934 in Bellevue, Iowa, to Joseph and Josephine (Ries) Ernst. He grew up in Bellevue and attended country school. He married Frieda Kilburg on October 16, 1965 in Andrew, Iowa. Donald first worked for Goetz Implement Dealership in Bellevue, Iowa. He then moved to Dubuque where he worked for John Deere Dubuque Works for several years. In 1967, he and Frieda purchased a farm in rural Andrew where they farmed until retirement in 1990. Donald was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Andrew and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. He enjoyed playing cards and watching television. Those left to honor Donald's memory include his wife, Frieda Ernst of Andrew, IA; children, Randy (Sharon) Ernst of Andrew, IA, Sheila (Todd) Schmidt of Dubuque, IA, and Lisa (Chris) Westpfahl of Davenport, IA; 9 grandchildren, Emily, Julia, Jonathan, Carter, Kyle, Megan, Allison, Drew and Grace; brothers, Gregory (Pat) Ernst of Bellevue, IA and Herbert (Joanne) Ernst of Dubuque, IA; a sister, Mary Lou (Lawrence) Griebel of Bellevue, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harold, Joe, Norbert, Marvin "Jim" and Carl, and sisters, Algean Ernst and Alice Weinschenk.
