Ronald J. McClain

Ronald J. McClain, 74, of rural Dakota City, NE passed away at his residence, while surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 18, 2013. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City, NE with Pastor Jeffrey Ungs officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Ronald was born in McLean, NE on December 16, 1938, the son of Johnnie and Bernice (Ordway) McClain. He attended school in McLean, then Randolph, NE. He married Earlean Schoonover on August 29, 1960 in Canova, SD. The couple moved to Dakota City, NE and later to rural Dakota County. Ronald worked for various farmers, then the Burlington Northern Railroad until 1964. He also worked for the City of Dakota City, managed the Deep Rock/Kerr McGee Gas Station in Dakota City and at various construction jobs before working for Walmart in South Sioux City, where he was well known. He especially enjoyed his family. Survivors include is wife of 53 years, Earlean McClain of Dakota City, NE; children, Debra (Victor) McDonald of Creston, IA, Timothy (Patti) McClain of Sunrise Beach, TX, currently residing in Afghanistan, Michele (John) Faulk of Norfolk, NE and Shauna McClain of Dakota City, NE; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Bernice McClain; and his in-laws, Earl and Alice Schoonover.
