Charlotte L. "Char" Brown-McClaflin, 82, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa. A celebration of Char's life will be held at 2 P.M., Thursday, July 25, 2013, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2 P.M. on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Andrew, Iowa Cemetery. Charlotte Lorraine Redman was born on October 25, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, to Ernest and Shirley (Myers) Redman. She grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from Fenger High School in 1948. She then attended the University of Dubuque where she met her future husband, Keith F. Brown. They were married on June 25, 1950 in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1985. She married John W. McClaflin on October 20, 2000 in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2011. Char had first worked as a GED recruiter for students to attend night school. g in 1993. Char enjoyed volunteering, reading, flower gardens, and traveling, especially the last 15 years. She was a hard working and energetic person who was always concerned about others. Her favorite sayings were "whatever", and "get a life". Those left to honor Char's memory include her children, Dawn (Greg) Scholl of Milton, WI, Keith (Cindy) Brown of Rockledge, FL, Brad (Shirley) Brown of Dubuque, IA, Kim (Terry) Christianson of Mesa, CA, Kai (Kathee) Brown of Andrew, IA, Michele (Gary) Weinschenk of Springville, IA, and Douglas (Jacki) McClaflin of Maquoketa, IA; 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Pflanzer of Lansing, IL; a nephew, Kevin Pflanzer; and a niece, Krista Pflanzer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Keith and her husband John, and a grandson, Brad Eric Brown.
