Broncha M. Stern

Broncha "Bea" Stern July 16, 1935 - August 2, 2013 Bea Stern died peacefully at her home on August 2, 2013, at age 78 after four years of treatment for breast cancer. Bea was born and lived in Los Angeles, California, graduated from Roosevelt High School, and obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees from UCLA where she was immediately drawn to the home economics field. She made her career in education, working as a teacher in the L.A. Unified School District and ultimately retiring as a child development professor at Valley Community College after a 36-year tenure there. Even in retirement, Bea stayed active by instituting cooking programs at local elementary schools, co-founding and hosting a knit group of fellow retirees, and travelling with her husband of 54 years, Leon. Bea was the loving daughter of Rose and Sidney Schwartzwald. Besides her devoted husband, she is survived by her daughter, Bonnie; her son, Howard; her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Michelle; and their children, Alexander and Sierra.
