Gene Ray Richardson, Sr., 77 of Nevada passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013 at Rolling Green Village in Nevada of a stroke. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6 in the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be held immediately following in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Gene was born on May 20, 1936 in Ida Grove to Melvin E. and Dorothy (Mapes) Richardson. He served in the U.S.M.C. during the Korean Conflict. Gene was united in marriage to LaVonne Marie Bahr on April 21, 1956 in Yuma, AZ. LaVonne preceded Gene in death on February 23, 1994. On June 1, 1996, Gene married Sandra (Moore) Larkin in Nevada. After working 36 years at ISU, Gene retired in 1997 as Manager of Electrical Distribution. Gene was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and the William F. Ball American Legion Post #48. In past years he served with the Story County Reserves and played on a Fast Pitch Softball Team. y (Sharon) Richardson Jr. of McCallsburg; two daughters Cynthia Blessing and Kathy (Kevin) Johnson all of Nevada; six grandchildren Jesse (Erin) Richardson, Taine Blessing, Trae (Josh) Blessing, Frank (Shelly) Richardson, Kerry (Rebekah) Johnson, and Krystal Johnson; three great-grandchildren Peyton Drenning, Demrie Blessing, and Aniston Richardson; two step-daughters Laura (James) Reetz of Columbus WI and Andrea Delara of Des Moines; five step-grandchildren; a half brother Jerry Richardson of Glenwood; two half sisters Dora (Larry) McClelland and Debbie (Terry) Huff, all of Farmington, MO. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife LaVonne, brother Dean Richardson, sister Donna Cauthorn and half brother Gary Richardson Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Gene. Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Gene and his family.
