Vera G. Newman

Vera G. Newman, age 94, of Albia, Iowa died on Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. She was born on August 23, 1919 in Albia, IA to Herschel and Nina Bell (Potts) Newman. She graduated from Albia High School, class of 1938. She then attended Success College in Ottumwa, and later William Penn College in Oskaloosa. She worked for the State of Iowa Welfare Department for forty-three years. She was an avid bowler in her younger years, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Her nieces and nephew were the joy of her life. Vera is survived by one niece, Marlene (Larry) Roush of Ottumwa; five nephews, Merlin (Christy) Newman of Albia, Gary (Jane) Newman of Valley Springs, SD, Randy (Brenda) Newman of Albia, David (Debbie) Newman of Rockwell, IA, Jay (Ruth) Newman of Kensett, IA; and several great and great great nieces and nephews also survive Vera. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Donald, Raymond, and Harvey Clair Newman.
