Rex Brown

Rex Brown was born March 6, 1932, the son of Alvin and Tassie (McFarland) Brown. He was born on the Brown Family Heritage Farm that was established in 1856, and is the oldest family farmhouse in West Bend. He grew up on the farm and attended school in West Bend and in 1950 he graduated from the West Bend High School. Following his schooling he served his country by joining the military and serving in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge from the military he returned to West Bend. On June 10, 1953, Rex was united in marriage to Anna Zita Montag at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near West Bend. Along with raising crops, he also raised hogs and cattle. They continued to live on the farm until 1997, when they moved in to West Bend. Rex enjoyed spending time with his family, going to Branson, Missouri, and in his younger years spending time at the Plantation Ballroom. He served as a township trustee for over 25 years for the West Bend Township and was a member of the Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church. September of 2013. Rex died Sunday, December 1, 2013, at the West Bend Care Center in West Bend, Iowa. He was 81. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Anna Zita Brown of West Bend; children, Daniela and husband Kevin Doty of Fort Dodge; Nan and husband Curt Klouse of Mason City; Faith Brown of Vinton; Larry Brown and wife Renita of West Bend; Renee and husband Tim Dailey of Princeton, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Richard Brown of West Bend and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karen Brown and two brothers, Robert Brown and Jimmy Brown.
