Marvin Stanek, 93, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Burial will be Wednesday at 9:30 AM in the Elkhorn Township Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the VFW Post #1856 and the United States Navy. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Marvin is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl (George) Laws of Austin, Texas and Lynnette (William) Jones of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; grandchildren, Jennifer Dawn (Catray Dalyan) and a great grandchild Aliyah; brother, Laurin Stanek and a sister, Darlene Wood. He is preceded in death by his wife Inez, an infant son Carroll Marvin, a grandson Douglas Brooks, his 2nd wife Lorraine, his parents, his sister Janice Yetmar, and his special friend Lavina Jensen. ear Marvin entered the United States Navy. While in the Navy he taught electronics and was later discharged in March of 1946. Marvin farmed for several years in the Otho area and was a breeder of Poland China Hogs. He then became the postmaster in Otho. His wife Inez passed away in 1985. He later married Lorraine Halverson and she passed away in 1997. Marvin was a Senior Olympian in Horseshoes where he received a gold medal. He enjoyed fishing and was a very lucky card player. He also earned the title of a Master Gardener from Iowa State University. Marvin has visited every state in the United States except Alaska. He was a member of the America Legion. The family requests memorials be left to the Wounded Warrior Project.
