Barbara Jane Mickelson

Barbara Mickelson, 78, of Malvern, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern with Reverend Carl Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the East Liberty Cemetery northwest of Malvern. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the funeral home in Malvern. Memorials are directed to the Malvern Fire Department or Malvern Rescue. Barbara Jane Brewer, daughter of Charles Royce and Nellie Pearl (Martin) Brewer was born on February 8, 1935 in Malvern, Iowa. She was a graduate from the Malvern High School. As a teenager Barb loved to play the piano and accordion. On August 9, 1953 she married Theron Eugene Mickelson at the Malvern United Methodist Church in Malvern. The couple made their home on a farm northwest of Malvern. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Christy, Richard, and David. Barb worked at the State School in the dietary section for over 25 years. but most of all loved spending time with the grandkids and enjoyed making scrapbooks of them. Barb is survived by her husband of 60 years, Theron; daughter, Christy (Joe) Hinton of Goodlettsville, TN; son, David (Mary) Mickelson of Scottsdale, AZ; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of very special friends. Barb is preceded in death by her parents, son, Richard in 2000, and sisters, Frances Vogt, Edith Powles, and Mary Bingham; brother, Charles Brewer.
