EVELYN BEHRENS SOLON, Iowa - Evelyn W. Behrens, 90, died on Monday, January 6, 2014, at the Solon Care Center. Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Erica Uthe of St. John's Lutheran Church of Ely, Iowa, will officiate. Casket bearers will be Scott Starkweather, David Starkweather, Ellis Adams, David Perkins, Stuart Perkins, and Chris Laubenthal. Burial will take place in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers from Iowa City Hospice and the Solon Care Center for helping Evelyn through her end-of-life journey. Evelyn was born on May 21, 1923, in Deer Lodge, Tennessee, the daughter of Albert Lincoln and Myrtle May Perkins Adams. She graduated in 1940 from Sunbright High School, Sunbright, Tennessee, and then attended Knoxville Business College in Knoxville, Tennessee. rking for Grain Processing Corporation until 1951. She married Robert J. Behrens on September 1, 1946, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Muscatine. She and Robert relocated to Bettendorf in October of 1959. Evelyn worked as an office manager for 17 years at Plumb's Carpet Company in Bettendorf. After retiring, she and Bob moved to Pleasant Valley in 1989. In 2002, she moved into Terrace Lane Village in Solon. She was a devoted wife and mother and a dear friend to many. She was a member of Saint James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, Eastern Star No 302 in LeClaire, Daughters of the Nile in Davenport, and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary No. 9128 of Bettendorf. Those left to honor her memory include her children, Daniel J. Behrens and wife, Lisa Kay, of Pleasant Valley, and Karla Laubenthal and husband, Nick, of Iowa City; a sister-in-law, Ruth Starkweather of Muscatine; and nephews, David Starkweather and wife, Peggy, and Scott Starkweather and wife, Nancy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1993; two brothers, Ellis and Otis Adams; and one nephew, Michael Ellis Adams.
