A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Burial is in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at at the funeral home. There will be a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to: V.F.W. Post 2295 in Emmetsburg; Lakeside Lutheran Home; or the Alzheimer's Association. Raymond Nicholas Kunz, the son of Leonard and Mae (Koeller) Kunz was born September 20, 1919, in Ellington Township. He received his education in Mallard. On June 9, 1965, he was united in marriage to Donna Gates. They had one son, David. During World War II, Ray left the Mallard area and enlisted in the United States Army with the 80th Field Artillery Battalion, Batter A. Most of his army years were served in the Philippines (Luzon), New Guinea and Hawaii. Ray received an honorable discharge from the army on October 27, 1945. Ray had several different careers after his military career including being a shoe repairman. t Winnebago allowed him to travel to almost every state in the United States. Ray's love of driving allowed him to visit family and friends all over America and take his wife and son with him on many of his journeys. Ray was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2295 in Emmetsburg and helped the V.F.W. whenever possible. On Tuesday, January 7, 2014, Ray passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Harold, Howard, Elmer, Vincent and Leo; and a sister, Coletta Currans. He is survived by his wife, Donna of Emmetsburg; two sons: Ray Jr. II and his wife, Kristyn of Austin, TX and David Kunz and his wife, LeAnn, of Washington, IA; three brothers: Leonard Kunz of Yuma, AZ, LeRoy Kunz of Emmetsburg and Richard Kunz of Emmetsburg; 4 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
