Edwin Wendt

Edwin Wendt,died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Rosalia Gardens. He was 98 years old. He was born on October 13, 1915 in Milwaukee, a son of Arthur and Gertrude (Eidemiller) Wendt. He married Dorothy Baures on June 14, 1941 at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2004. He graduated from Pio Nono High School in Milwaukee and graduated from Milwaukee State Teachers College in 1936. He began teaching in Grosse Pointe, Michigan as he continued his education and in 1939 graduated from Wayne State University with a Masters degree in Education Administration. He took time from teaching to serve his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1943-1946. He saw action at the battle of the bulge in the European Theatre. In 1952 Mr. Wendt became an elementary principal in the Grosse Pointe school system. He retired in 1978. For many years he spent summers at Bass Lake. After retirement he wintered in Sarasota Florida and continued living at Bass Lake in the summertime. d step father Gertrude and William Dunphy, and his father Arthur Wendt. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Omer Kelley officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, Summit Lake. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 until the time of services at the church.
