Patricia A. Schaefer, 68, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at the Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, in Davenport, Iowa. A celebration of Pat's life will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. A gathering of family and friends will be held immediately following the service from 3 to 5 P.M. in "The Bistro" at the Carson Celebration of Life Center. Pat was born on October 3, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Wanda (Dziondziak) Ryan. She was raised in Chicago, graduated from high school and then attended nursing school. She married Hartmuth "Hardy" Schaefer on August 29, 1970 in Chicago, Illinois. Pat and Hardy lived in Chicago where she embraced family life with her husband and their children. In addition to raising a family she had also worked as an administrative assistant for several companies. Pat and Hardy moved to Maquoketa and enjoyed their retirement while they established a wonderful circle of friends and participated in many community activities. nd happy, Pat touched many lives and made the world a better place along the way. Pat was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa Country Club, YMCA, and was active in donating her time and talent to the Toys for Tots program and to the Ohnward Fine Arts Center. Those left to honor Pat's memory include her husband Hardy Schaefer of Maquoketa, IA; children Ron (Chris) Schaefer, Sr. of Maquoketa, IA, Terry (Jodie) Schaefer of Chicago, IL, and Cyndi (Mike) Czajka of Mt. Prospect, IL; 9 grandchildren Samantha Kreiner, Charity Ives, Carolyn Schaefer, Ronald Schaefer Jr., Tim Schaefer, Rachel Schaefer, Danny Schaefer, Maddie Schaefer and Katie Czajka; 2 great- grandchildren Caleb Kreiner and Mya Ives; and a sister Jackie (and her life partner Bonnie) Ryan of Glen Ellyn, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Rosemarie (Ray) Kozicz, and a foster brother Danny Smyczynski.
