Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2014, at New Hope Community Chapel in Emmetsburg. Visitation will take place at Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home in Graettinger from 4-7:00 p.m. Friday with the family present from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gerald's name. Gerald Ross Stroud was born February 9, 1932, in Kingfisher, OK, the son of Ross and Imogene (Thompson) Stroud. He received his education in Kingfisher. On December 31, 1950, Gerald was united in marriage to Delores Steven. The couple made their home in Graettinger, where they raised their five children. Gerald worked various jobs throughout his life including farming and construction, but his favorite was running the salvage yard. He was an avid collector of many things, and he was always willing to help others with their collections. Gerald enjoyed old western movies, especially John Wayne, and singing crazy songs to his grandchildren. He loved his family and treasured the time they shared. elfless man and a man of great faith. On Thursday, January 29, 2014, Gerald passed away at the Emmetsburg Care Center. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Delores of Graettinger; five children: Susan (Tom) Rooney of Sioux Falls, SD, Janet (Jerry) Heifner of Spencer, IA, Kathy (Dave) Henely of Chariton, IA, Steven Stroud of Graettinger and Ann (Phil) Biddle of Emmetsburg, IA; two sisters: Margie Burpo and Margaret Murphy both of Kingfisher, OK; one brother, Troy (Shirley) Stroud of Wynnewood, OK; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Louise and Beatrice; Three brothers: Chester, who died in infancy, George, and Alfred; and his grandson, B.J. Biddle.
