Kathleen Delores Kaatz

Kathleen (Kay) D. Kaatz, age 90, of Madison, WI, passed into God's hands from natural causes on January 30, 2014. She was faithful to God, a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born September 1, 1923, in Menasha, WI to John Allen and Hazel Heckner. She had no siblings. After graduating high school in 1940, she met Donald Kaatz and they married in 1946. Kay held mostly clerical jobs while Don was in the service. They eventually moved and settled in Madison, WI so Don could attend law school. They made their home on Homberg Lane and had 3 children. Kay was a wonderful example of faith who sang choir at St. Dennis Catholic Church and most recently attended St. Bernard Catholic Church. She had a love for what she called "gaudy" jewelry and was always dressed with style and the latest fashions. Kay had a flair for decorating and kept a beautiful home. She loved her 1972 cherry red Cadillac Eldorado convertible and you would often see her cruising down Cottage Grove Road. behind the cosmetics desk. Those who remember Kay know her as an elegant woman who was funny, caring, thoughtful and generous. Kay was still sending her great-grandchildren a crisp dollar bill for their birthdays. Kay is survived by her son Steven S. (Diann) Kaatz of Madison and two daughters Cindy (Jon) Jensen of Onalaska and Connie (Robert) Duarte of Cottage Grove. She was fond of her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many loving friends and relatives who helped and cared for her over her final years. Special thanks to her friends Bobbi, Mary-Lou and Nancy for their friendship. Kay was preceded in death by her husband Don of 28 years. Kay lived a full life and requested that there be no funeral or ceremony. Her family wishes to thank all of those who kept in contact and cared for her over the last several years.
