Althea J. George, 94, of Bellevue, and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday morning, February 5, 2014, at the Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa. A celebration of Althea's life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. Althea Jane Gnade was born on April 4, 1919 in Andrew, Iowa, to Henry and Anna (Hankemeier) Gnade. She attended Jackson County country schools and then Andrew High School. She married Max Campbell in June of 1939 in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1965. She married William "Bill" George on May 20, 1972 in Rock Island, Illinois. Althea was a homemaker and had farmed with her first husband prior to his death. She then worked at Hamilton's Department Store in Maquoketa from 1965 to 1971. Upon her marriage to Bill, they moved to Davenport for eight years, and then retired to Bellevue on August 28, 1984. vue and had been a member of the Country Community Guild. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was a talented seamstress who dressed her daughters impeccably making and designing their clothes when they were younger. She was a great cook, and a family historian. Those left to honor Althea's memory include her husband, Bill George of Bellevue, IA; a daughter, Shirley (Rev. Dr. Jack) Reents of Ocala, FL; 3 step-children, Clyde, Douglas and Mary Jo; 8 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Max, a daughter Janet, 2 brothers Lloyd and LeRoy Gnade, 2 half-brothers Harold and Bill Gnade, and a half-sister Emelie Diesing.
