Charles McClaren Henning

Charles McClaren Henning, age 91, of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away on February 20, 2014 at the Treasure Coast Hospice House in Fort Pierce, Florida. Mr. Henning was born January 13, 1923 in Grand Cayman, the son of the late Capt. McClaren Henning and Cora Bodden Henning. He retired from the U.S. Merchant Marines as a navigation officer in 1986 after over 40 years of distinguished service. Mr. Henning was a avid salt water fisherman, boating enthusiast and fruit and vegetable gardener. He loved socializing with family and friends and was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and devoted wife of 66 years, Laurel Gwen Henning; daughter, Diane McDonough and her husband, Frank; daughter-in-law, Vanessa Henning; brother, John Henning and his wife, Gweneth; grandson, Ryan Shipman and his wife, Julie; granddaughter, Jennifer Doty and her husband, Matt; sister-in-law, Marie Ebanks and her husband, Martin; great-grandchildren; Jack and Nate Shipman, Austin, Andrew, Mary, Sarah and Rose Doty.
