D. Gregg Thompson, 88, of Ft. Lauderdale died Saturday, February 22, 2014. Gregg was born in Richmond, VA to the Rev. William Taliaferro and Anne Claiborne McIlwaine Thompson on November 15, 1925. He served in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army in World War II, where he fought in Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge.
He moved to Miami in 1962 where he worked as Vice-President of Sales for Chiquita Banana until he retired. He was a devout Christian who knew his need for grace, and served the church out of deep gratitude.
Gregg is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Riki; sons, David, Bill (Susan) and John (Lisa); daughter, Dede Hunter (Rick); grandchildren, Josh, Gabe, Jake, Eli Mac, Elisabeth, Ben and Michael and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. with the funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Fred Hunter's Downtown Ft. Lauderdale Home, 718 S. Federal Highway.
