Duane Charles Thielen

Duane "Curly" Thielen, 81, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa. He was born on July 23, 1932, in Coulter, Iowa, to Richard and Gladys (Rodemeyer) Thielen. Curly graduated from Latimer High School. He was united in marriage to Cora Lee McCormick on May 20, 1951, in Latimer, Iowa. Curly farmed his entire life. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton. Curly enjoyed reading, trap shooting and working in his wood shop. He also enjoyed collecting guns, knives, coins and antique tractors. Curly is survived by his wife Cora Lee Thielen of Hampton, children Audrey (Bob) Karinen of Littleton, Colorado, Denise (Luis) Figueroa of Brooksville, Florida, Janelle (David) Wilson of Jefferson, Kim (Jim) Shugar of Adel, and Charlie (Sue) Thielen of Hampton, grandsons Jade Wilson, Brandon Viet, Jeramy Viet, Zak Karinen, Heath Figueroa and Clayton Cooper, granddaughters Kelly Karinen, Erin Fisher, Nicole Happe, Jenny Welch, Lindsey Wilson, Keisha Thielen and Joslyn Kiley, eighteen great-grandchildren, siblings Lavern (Carol Dee) Thielen of Cedar Falls, Gay (Sharon) Thielen of Latimer, Betty (Harris) ...[more]

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Gladys, brothers Bill and Dick and sister Marge. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton, Iowa, with Rev. Karl Bollhagen and Vicar Nathan Schieber officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Burial will take place in the Hampton Cemetery.
