Kenneth R. Schaffer, 84, of Milo passed away Thursday, March 06, 2014 at Circle of Life Hospice & Legacy Lodge in Chariton. Kenneth was born on July 9, 1929 in Belvidere, Illinois to Albert & Alabina (Shawvan) Schaffer. He received his education from Belvidere High School in 1946. Kenneth was a veteran of the United States Air Force and United States Navy Corps. He enlisted in the Navy in 1947 until 1950 when he would enlist in the Air Force to serve during the Korean War. Kenneth was united in marriage on April 1, 1950 to Elizabeth "Betty" Pierson, to their union came four children: Kenneth Jr., Lorrie, Bobby and David. Kenneth and Betty would later divorce. Kenneth married again on May 26, 1989 to Margie (Turner) Correll. Kenneth continued his education at Rock Valley Community College in Rockford, Illinois and Lake City Community College in Lake City, Florida. Manley Ford in Belvidere, Illinois employed Kenneth as an auto mechanic. He choose to move south and work at Citrus Hills Golf & Country Club in Hernando, Florida. here he helped mow the course and service the golf carts. Kenneth was a member of the Milo Christian Union Church and a former member of the Moose Lodge in Dunnellon, Florida. Kenneth learned to fly airplanes earlier in his life. He loved the outdoors and spent time both hunting and fishing. Kenneth enjoyed working with wood and made clocks for his family members. Kenneth followed both the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. As he grew older his favorite hobby became golf. Golf was a big part of Kenneth's life during the season. He cherished the time he had on the course, whether working or playing. Many friends and family will miss Kenneth Schaffer. Survivors include, his wife, Margie Schaffer of Milo, four children: Kenneth Schaffer (Tammy) of Belvidere, IL, Lorrie Peters (Jim) of Indianola, Bobby Schaffer (Christine) of Hazel Green, WI, David Schaffer (Nett) of Milo, three stepchildren: Sandra Jones (Ron) of Peru, IN, Jeffrey Garbert of Sandyville, IA, Lori Salmons of Logansport, IN, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, 2 nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister in law; William H. & Sara Lu Turner. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Milo with Rev. Mike Nodland officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior from 1-2 p.m. Full Military Honors will be presented following the service at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Milo.
