Mattie D. Tweeten, 86, of Forest City, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient unit in Mason City. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour before the services at the church. Inurnment will be held in Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery in the spring. Mattie D. Tweeten was born November 8, 1927 in Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Esther (Hanna) Bartleson. She graduated from Forest City High School in 1945. She attended the Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, graduating with a teaching degree. She taught at a country school for a few years before her marriage to Edwin Heimdal in 1949 at the Forest City Evangelical Church. Mattie and her husband farmed for many years, while raising their children. In 1968 Mattie decided to continue her education in nursing at NIACC. She graduated with a Nursing Certificate. She worked as a nurse at the Forest City Hospital until her retirement in 1990. She met and married Alvin Tweeten in 1990. and traveling with her late husband, Alvin. She enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mattie is survived by her children, Elaine Dory of Urbandale, IA, Martha Abraham of Waukee, IA, Randal (Marcia) Heimdal of Lucas, Iowa, Edward (Karen) Heimdal of Charles City, IA; sister. Emma Murfin of Forest City; grandchildren, Jeff Kling, James Kling, Michelle Abraham, Marsha Abraham, Mark Abraham, Tricia (David) Shuffty, Jason (Elizabeth) Heimdal; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Cooper Kling and Jackson Heimdal and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Edwin Heimdal ; second husband, Alvin Tweeten; three sisters, Martha Bartleson, Phoebe Bartleson, Geneva Clothier, son in-law Andrew Abraham; two brother in-laws, Edward Clothier and Max Murfin.
