Gerald D. Loehr, 84, of Moorland, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at his home in Moorland. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Moorland with the Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the VFW Post #1856 and the Iowa National Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Gerald Dee Loehr, the son of Floyd and Muriel (Walrod) Loehr was born January 9, 1930 in rural Moorland and graduated from Moorland High School in 1948. Gerald was drafted into the Unites States Army and served in the Korean War from August of 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. On August 7, 1954, Gerald married Patricia Schutjer in Titonka, Iowa. After their marriage the couple made rural Moorland their home until 1957 when they moved to Knierim. In 1964 they moved to the Jolley area and finally back to rural Moorland in 1968. Gerald farmed all of his life. He enjoyed fishing, raising flowers especially roses, and gardening. tinued to live in Moorland until his death on Friday. He was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Moorland where he had held various offices in the church. Gerald was a church Deacon, Treasurer and Trustee, he was also a member of the Roelyn Elevator Board. Gerald is survived by his two children, Clyde Loehr of Moorland and Carla (Tom) VanAlstine of Gowrie; four grandchildren, Angela Fraher of Olathe, Kansas, Nicholas of Moline, Illinois, Christopher Loehr of Cleveland, Ohio and Scott Kollasch and his fiancé, Amber Nerdig of Kansas City, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Caiden and Laila Fraher. He is also survived by his brother, Alvin "Bub" (Shirley) Loehr of Moorland and a sister, Elsie Mae Fiala of San Jose, Costa Rica, Central America; a sister-in-law, Cheryl (Jim) Doyle of Australia; and many nieces and nephews. Gerald is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents, and a sister, LaVonne Chalstrom. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
