William "Bill" Leighty, 76, of Tipton, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10:30 am, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will follow in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in his name for the Tipton Fire Department and the Tipton VFW.
Bill was born on December 16, 1937 in Tipton, Iowa and was the son of Roy and Genevieve Schwitzer Leighty. He graduated from Tipton High School in 1956 and attended Parsons College. He was a trucker for Werling Trucking and Hayslett Trucking and then became the owner/operator of Bill's DX for 10 years in Tipton. Bill spent a total of 30 years as a car salesman for Wehde Motors and O'Rourke Motors in Tipton. Bill earned many awards from Ford Motor Company for his achievements as a salesman. He was a member of the Tipton Fire Department, First United Church of Christ of Tipton and was a past member of the Tipton Moose Lodge and the Tipton Country Club.
