Frank Pohl, 85, of Fort Dodge, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at his home. Service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date at the North Lawn Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Frank Joseph Pohl, the son of Joseph and Hilda (Green) Pohl, was born January 17, 1929, in rural Calhoun County where he attended and graduated from county school near Rinard, Iowa. Frank served in the United States Army during the Korean War from January 10, 1951 until till his honorable discharge on January 13, 1953. On June 18, 1954, Frank married Bernita Stell in Duncombe, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived and farmed in the Rinard area. In the late 1960's, Frank moved his family to Fort Dodge were he began working for the Grain Terminal in Fort Dodge. Later, Frank started working at Iowa Central Community College as a custodian were he retired from. Frank loved tinkering in his garage and shop and just keeping his house and his lawn up. Frank is survived by his four children, Deb (Ken) Lasher of Sioux City, IA, Vicki (Randy) Hartley of Fort Dodge, Pam (Keith) Yetmar of Fort Dodge and Jeff Pohl of Newton, IA; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and a sister, Doris (Don) Roosa of Lehigh, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a brother, Donald Pohl. Frank was a member of the V.F.W. and the ICCC Retired Employees. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
