David William Heckenberg

Mr. David William Heckenberg, 66, of West Burlington died at 3:41 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at his home. Born January 20, 1948 in Iowa, he was the son of Floyd Raines and Shirley Jean Lucas and Al Heckenberg. On December 22, 2002 he married Karen Lea Slisky in Kingston. Mr. Heckenberg received his associate of arts degree at Southeastern Community College in the auto mechanics program. He was a truck driver, retiring in 2006. He was a member of a Harley's owner group and enjoyed woodworking, art, flower gardening, growing hot peppers and all birds - including hummingbirds. He kept busy with a project all the time. Survivors include the love of his life - his wife, Karen Heckenberg of West Burlington and granddaughter, Lilly - his monkey girl; daughter, Tracy Hotop of Mt. Pleasant; son, Travis Heckenberg of Burlington; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one the way; his father, Floyd Raines of Arkansas; one brother, Ron Heckenberg of Mt. Pleasant; and aunt, Donna Long of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carl and Grace Lucas and his parents, Al and Shirley Heckenberg.
