Helen Schneider, 84, of Glenwood, passed away on May 19, 2014 at Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood. Burial will be at the Mineola Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Memorials: Open Door Mission 2828 N. 23rd Street E Omaha, Nebraska 68110 Helen Evelyn Strottman, one of five girls of Clarence and Ella (Wolf) Strottman was born on September 17, 1929 in Readlyn, Iowa. She received her education from Readlyn Schools graduating in 1947. On June 25, 1948, Helen and Lavern William Schneider were married at the Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa. They made their home in Waterloo. Their marriage was blessed with three children; Michael Lavern, Sandra Sue, and Jill Marie. In 1960, the young family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where Vern worked for Carnation Dairy. years and retiring as an income maintenance worker. Helen and Vern were active and faithful members of St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola, Iowa. Helen was a good Christian role model to her family and friends. The couple enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas where Helen enjoyed being part of a kitchen band. The couple took several trips to Branson, Missouri where they attended shows and enjoyed listening to country and blue grass music. Most of all her children and grandchildren were a special part of her life. Helen is survived by her son, Mike Schneider (Marsha) of Glenwood; daughters, Jill Fender (Martin) of Glenwood and Sandra Fourney ( John) of Council Bluffs; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Bauer (Leroy) of Waverly, Iowa and Elaine Teisinger (Warren) of Dunkerton, Iowa; nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and special friends. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lavern in January 2007; and granddaughter, Melissa Fender in July 2007; sisters, Alice Watts and Doris Zwanziger.
