Virginia Faye Garlick Carlson of Clarence, Iowa formerly of Tipton, Iowa passed away on August 3, 2014 with her family at her side. Visitation will be held from 9AM-11AM on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, Iowa. Her funeral service will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, August 6, 2014 following visitation, at Fry Funeral Home. Reverend Carroll Slayton will officiate. Burial and graveside services will be held at Tipton Masonic Cemetery. The family warmly encourages all friends and family to join them for a luncheon at the Tipton VFW following burial. She attended school in Tipton, Iowa. Virginia married Vincent "Vince" Carlson on August 22, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. They lived in Tipton, Iowa until moving to Clarence, Iowa in 2002. Virginia is loved and survived by her children, Charles (Linda) Carlson of Tipton, Iowa, Linda (Don) Hillyer, also of Tipton, Iowa, Carl Carlson of Odell, Illinois and Becky (Stan) Severin of Lowden, Iowa. She had 8 grandchildren: Chuck Carlson, Jim and Bill Hillyer, Olivia Johnson, Stewart Carlson, Patrick Severin, Shari Slaton and Sandi Kallaus; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Virginia enjoyed spending many hours with her wonderful friends, Jeanette Brendes, Arlene Hein, Evelyn Riedesel, Betty Lou McVay and honorary chauffeur, Steve Hein. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vince; sisters, Betty Younger, Francis Wagner and Margaret Shotwell; half-sister, Lucille; brother, Harlan Garlick; and half-brothers, Raymond and Ralph. Virginia's happiest times were when she was surrounded by her family and friends.
