Darline Wagler

Mrs. Darline I. Wagler, 88, of Burlington died at 1:26 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Great River Medical Center surrounded by her family. Born July 22, 1926 in Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Perry and Esther (Lucas) Hummer. On June 16, 1946 she married Oran Wagler in West Burlington. Mrs. Wagler was a Burlington High School graduate. She worked at Cooks Department Store and in food service for the Burlington Community School District at Sunnyside Elementary School. Mrs. Wagler was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Burlington Northern Railroad Auxiliary and former president of Hawkeye Natives. She served on the board of directors for Burlington Steamboat Senior Center and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and a Zion United Church of Christ baby quilter. Survivors include, her husband of 68 years, Oran Wagler of Burlington; two sons, Leonard Wagler of Blue Grass and Darrell Wagler of Burlington; two daughters, Sandra Levins of Burlington and Rhonda Thacker of Columbia, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Bernard Hummer of Burlington and Wayne Hummer of Lincoln, Nebraska. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, September 21st, at Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Wagler will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 22nd, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Brice Hughes officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Zion United Church of Christ and Sunnyside Elementary School PTA.
