Dwight H. Lane was born January 8, 1932 in Bearsville, New York. He died on October 17, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton, Ohio. He was raised in Sharon Springs, New York and settled there for most of his adult life as a community leader, business owner and school teacher. He taught agriculture, social studies and industrial arts/wood shop at Sharon Springs Central School, his alma mater. He also started the schools driver education program in the late 1980s. Following his retirement, he enjoyed the temperate climate and hospitality of Seminole, Florida until 2008. In 2008, he moved to Springboro, Ohio to live closer to his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margaret (Peggy) Norberg Lane, one daughter Karen (Tony) DeRosa and one son Steven (Kaitlin) Lane and six grandchildren: Sam, Theo, A.J. and Belle DeRosa, and Molly and Cooper Lane. Mr. Lane attended Cornell University with academic and Army ROTC scholarships. He received his Bachelor degree and served as an officer in the United States Army with service in Oklahoma and Massachusetts with the Nike Missile Program. ship with friend Harold Lappeus to open Dairyland, a very successful independent restaurant in Sharon Springs, which he owned and operated for more than 40 years. Mr. Lane was elected to the position of Town Supervisor, representing Sharon in Schoharie County government. He served as Chair for the County GOP and actively campaigned on behalf of numerous local, state and national candidates. He was President of the Mohawk Valley Economic Development District. His civic volunteerism extended as a member and President of the Sharon Springs Rotary and a number of community boards. Funeral services will be held Monday 1:00 pm at the at the Anderson Funeral Home 40 N. Main St. Springboro, Ohio 45066. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial in Springboro Cemetery.
