Mrs. Joyce Ruth Boughton Shute, 77, of Burlington died at 6:33 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born March 18, 1937 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clifford and Helen Reif Rigsby. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Bert and Luella Marshall in Mount Pleasant. On May 17, 1958 she married Robert L. Boughton in Burlington and they later divorced. On March 17, 1973 she married Gary R. Shute in Biggsville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1988. Mrs. Shute was a 1955 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and she received her associate's degree from SCC in medical assistant. She retired in 2000 from General Electric; however, because she enjoyed staying busy, she continued to work part time after her retirement. Mrs. Shute was of the Methodist faith. Her family was very important to her and tacos was her specialty. helle McMurren and her son Christian, Sasha (Craig Larson) Lamb and their daughter Zaleigha, Winston, Whitney, and Walker Hostetter, Steele Boughton, Skyler Boughton and his daughter Londyn; two brothers, Bob Rigsby of Carson City, Nevada and Stanley Rigsby of Florida and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt and uncle who raised her; husband, Gary Shute; son, Ronald Boughton; son-in-law, Doug Roberts; brother, Ronnie Housefred; sister, Betty Cardenas and grand-son-in-law, Ryan Oetken. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Sunday, October 26th, at Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Shute will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 26th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Williams officiating. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
