Ramon Rodriguez

Ramon Rodriguez lost his battle with lung cancer on Thursday, October 23, 2014. Ramon came from Alquizar, Habana Cuba. He is preceded in death by his mother Caridad Hernandez Ruiz and father Ramon Rodriguez Martinez. He is survived by his family in Cuba, his brother Pedro Rodriguez Hernandez and many ½ brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces & nephews. Ramon's prayers were answered being granted permission to travel. He left Cuba in May 1980 arriving in Key West, U.S.A. He and many others were sent to a military camp in Wisconsin. After a short time he was matched with a sponsor in August 1980 in St. Paul Minnesota. This is where he met and fell in love with his life time partner Jackie Withrow. Although she didn't speak Spanish and he didn't speak English they made a life together lasting 34 years. Ramon had many eye opening experiences as he had never seen snow before or sub-zero weather or a Christmas holiday. He loved all of his new homeland traditions. They moved to a large Spanish community in Dallas, TX so that Ramon could communicate better. n tried several types of jobs, but he chose working for moving companies. He got a lot of exercise and he got to enjoy the outdoors. His last job of 10 years was with Two Men and a Truck Corp. in Ft. Lauderdale & Davie, FL. He made many good friends with the staff and co-workers. A special mention to his co-worker Ken Petke, thank you for being a friend. I can honestly say Ramon liked the physical challenges of his job. He would often say "good exercise" & "fresh air" and he always enjoyed meeting new clients and the opportunity to do a good job, so that he could earn a good tip. He was so proud when the customers were happy with him and tipped him well. Many times he would come home and say "Woo Hoo" 100 dollars makes me scream and holler." Many people might not know that Ramon had a tattoo over his heart. And he spelled it like he pronounced it "Jaki". I will always miss him coming home after work and saying "Jaki I'm home".
