he worked as an executive at Browns Furniture and Designs in Boca Raton, Florida and then the Executive Vice President of Marketing for Philip Reinisch Company in Chicago. Mike also started one of the earliest cell phone companies in the United States in 1995, Transamerica Communications Company, which he then sold during the early years of consolidation of cell phone providers. Mike had a more simple life toward the end of his career working in transportation at HIRTA and Dunham Transportation in Ames, Iowa. The many mentally and physically handicapped people he helped at HIRTA gave him great delight. Mike was an extremely talented musician. In high school he was an All-State baritone player. He was a member of the Iowa Gold Singers at the University of Iowa. Mike was also a member of the nationally recognized Barbershop Quartet called the River City Delegation, which appeared on the Today show with Barbara Walters. The personal letter received from Meredith Willson, the famous composer of the Music Man, was donated by Mike to the Music Man Museum in Mason City, Iowa. Mike was best known by his family and friends for his warm and caring personality. His laugh and sense of humor was always his calling card. He always enjoyed meeting new people and tried his best to make them feel comfortable. The hours he spent laughing, singing, and talking with family and friends will be the most lasting memory for everyone. Online condolences may be directed to: www.grandonfuneralandcremationcare.com
