r (and all of them getting bucked off), and walking to and from Strahan to attend the Methodist Church. Fern received her high school diploma from Strahan High School with the Class of 1935. She competed athletically as a member of the Strahan High School basketball and softball teams and participated in the choir and small vocal groups. On December 16, 1937, Fern "Sally" and Russell James Fleming were married in Rockport, Missouri. They resided about a week with Russ's parents and then departed for Southern California. Upon their return in 1940, Fern and Russ resided in Peaceville, Strahan and then in the Henderson, Iowa area from 1948 onward. Fern was a school bus driver for the Nishna Valley School District from 1962 until her retirement in 1979. She became an ardent and avid quilter during the ensuing decades until she was plagued by macular degeneration and diabetes. Fern happily resided nearly 55 years in her home in Henderson. Her family was her pride and joy, and her friends and neighbors will remember her always for her generosity, kindness and reliability. Fern was preceded in death by her husband Russ (1971); daughters, Flossie Alice Fleming (1938) and Carol Maxine (Ken) Warnke (2000); sister Waneta Mae (John) Denson; half-brothers, Dale Jay (1925), twins, Clark (1984) and Mark (1922) Baldozier, and twins, Merritt (1910) and Mary (1910) Baldozier; half-sisters, Ione (Sturdevant and Van Dyke) Gregory, Lucille Gregory, and Hazel Gladys (Joe) Schehl. Fern is survived by her children, Robert Allen (Kathy) Fleming, of Tarkio, MO; Richard Alden (Vicki) Fleming, of Henderson; Edna Lorraine (Jim Stewart) Fleming, of Omaha; and Dale Eugene (Cathy) Fleming of Wiggins, CO; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and extended relatives and friends.
