Services for Dorothy will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5 at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Visitation will be held from 3-6 pm on Sunday, January 4th at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Holy Family Parish in Emmetsburg or to the Hospice House in Pella. Dorothy was born November 3, 1925 to Alfred and Beulah (Lawhorn) Nelson in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She attended Emmetsburg School, graduating in 1944. Two days after her high school graduation she started working at Central Savings Bank and Trust Company (now Wells Fargo) as a teller. She remained loyal to the bank for 46 years, working in many different teller and cashier positions before retiring in 1990. Dorothy was the loving wife of the late Neil Whorley and the late Martin Eischen. In August of 1947, she married Neil Whorley. Eleven short years later Neil was killed in a plane crash while hunting. In 1960, she met Martin Eischen at a dance at the Plantation Ballroom in Whittemore, Iowa. They began to date and were married on January 14, 1961. Ten years later they welcomed their son, Gary. t kept her busy including bowling, gardening (she was especially proud of her tomatoes and green beans), golfing and enjoyed tending to the yard and her beautiful flowers. Dorothy was an avid walker, loved to travel taking many bus trips with Martin, enjoyed coffee time with the "bank ladies" she had worked with throughout the years, and spending time with friends and family. After retirement she also worked on a part-time basis at the front desk of the Suburban Motel welcoming guests to Emmetsburg. Shortly before moving to Pella Dorothy and Martin would enjoy Friday morning breakfast with their close neighborhood friends at the casino. In October 2011, Dorothy and Martin moved to Vriendschap Village in Pella, IA to be closer to Gary and Karen. During the short three years they lived there, they made many close friends at the Village and thoroughly enjoyed discussing the day's news at coffee time each morning. Dorothy passed away on December 31, 2014 at the Comfort House in Pella, Iowa at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husbands Neil (1958) and Martin (2014); parents Alfred and Beulah; brother Kenneth; nephew Ron, and many brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her son Gary and his wife Karen of Pella, IA; a sister Ione Kenne; two sister-in-laws: Ruth Nelson, Elsie Eischen; and many nieces and nephews.
