JOHN D. GAHAN Mr. John Gahan, of North Spring Street in Port Washington, passed away Tuesday evening, January 13th in West Allis following a brief battle with esophageal cancer. He was 79 years old. John was born in Port Washington on November 28, 1935, son of Raymond and Alice Blumenberg Gahan. He attended local schools and graduated from Port Washington High School as a proud member of the Class of '55. John trained as a carpenter at Gahan Construction, beside his father, uncles and brothers, and continued as a union carpenter until he retired in 1990. There are few houses or buildings in Port Washington that his hands had not helped build or repair at some point. John loved what he did and he enjoyed training the younger up-and-coming carpenters who worked beside him. Mr. Gahan was also an avid hunter. When he wasn't at work or in the woods, John took great pride in working on his own house. John was a 50 year member of Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters, Local 2283. He is further survived by 2 brothers: Frank (Joanne) Gahan of Port Washington and Raymond (Barbara) Gahan of West Bend, 2 sisters: Lucille (the late William) Ikner of Milwaukee and Rosemary (the late Robert) Mudek of Hermantown, MN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his son Christopher and sisters Ruth Jaquish and Margaret Istre. Funeral Services will be held at 7PM on Friday, January 23rd at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave. in Port Washington. Deacon Ronald Schneider will preside. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7PM, with Military Honors at 7PM. He will be buried in St. Mary's Cemetery beside his son at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com . In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are suggested.
