HOMER, Richard S. April 27, 1929 - January 15, 2015 Dr. Richard (Dick) Homer combined a gentle nature with a great love of learning, teaching, and giving to others, embracing life with joy and enthusiasm. He was born and grew up in Chicago, the middle son of Reba and Jack Homer. He entered the University of Chicago at the age of 16 and excelled in his undergraduate and medical school education there. Dick married his college sweetheart Diana Chaplin in 1952 and trained at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco, after which he served in the Air Force for two years at the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain. He completed his residency in Dermatology at UCLA, and in 1960 started a private practice in the San Fernando Valley, serving thousands of patients for 35 years. Dr. Homer maintained his relationship with UCLA and the Westwood VA as an Assistant Clinical Professor throughout his years of private practice and as an attending dermatologist until 2014. He also served at CSU Northridge as a consultant dermatologist for Student Health Services.
