Mr. Richard Edward Hester Sr., 83, of Burlington died at 2:35 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2015, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born May 25, 1931 in Burlington, he was the son of Willie and Alice (Cable) Hester. On December 29, 1956 he married Dorothy Pratt in Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Hester was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving at the rank of Corporal. Mr. Hester was a custodian for 30 years in the Burlington School System. He was a member of Eagles Aerie #150. He enjoyed working on cars, camping and fishing. He was a handyman and enjoyed helping others, especially the children in school. He loved his dogs, "Peaches" and "Molly". Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Hester of Burlington; four children, Cindy (Bret) Edmunds of Denmark, Lynn Mathews of Ashburn, Virginia, Richard "Rick" (Madelyn) Hester Jr. of Bettendorf and Bill (Linda) Hester of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Hester of West Burlington, David Hester of Burlington and James Hester of Wayland; two sisters, Joyce Pender of Burlington and Marilyn Mullins of Rock Island, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. death by his parents and three brothers, Wayne, Bill and Larry. The funeral service for Mr. Hester will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. David Mixon officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
