Santo "Sam" Louis Barbagiovanni

Mr. Santo Louis "Sam" Barbagiovanni Jr., 80, of Burlington died at 11:29 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Great River Medical Center. Born August 18, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania he was the son of Santo L. and Jean Pellizzeri Barbagiovanni Sr. On February 6, 1981 he married Gwendolyn at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington. Mr. Barbagiovanni was a 1953 graduate of South Catholic High School and a Drexel University graduate with a degree in industrial engineering. He was an Army veteran. Mr. Barbagiovanni was Acting Plant Manager and Manager of Manufacturing - Engineering for GE for 42 years, retiring in 1995. Sam was one of twelve Engineers who helped develop the vacuum interrupter for General Electric Company. He was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus - Black Knights, GE Quarter Century Club, GE Retirees, Elfun Society, Burlington Patriots Group and Millay Society. He had served as an usher and on the Church Council at Holy Family Parrish Catholic Church when he lived in Fort Madison. Barbagiovanni II and wife Dr. Stephanie Barbagiovanni and their children Samuel and Alden, Dr. Jacquelyn (Barbagiovanni) Detweiler and husband Dennis and their children Madison and Jackson and Tracy (Barbagiovanni) Miller Esq. and husband Hank Miller Esq. and their children Logan and Evan. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Karen Waldrop and her husband James. Friends may call from noon until 7 p.m. Monday, January 26th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Barbagiovanni will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 27th, at St. Paul's Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Marty Goetz will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorials have been established for SS John and Paul and SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Churches.
