Darrell A. Long, 70, of New London, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.
Mr. Long was born September 1, 1944 in Brighton, Iowa, the son of Arthur Jacob and Ida Mae Martin Long. On May 7, 1988, he married Janet Sue Seggerman in Mt. Pleasant. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, a graduate of Brighton High School, and a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Burlington. He was employed by Gabeline Trucking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, working on vehicles and motorcycles, reading Westerns, his cat "Spud, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of New London; one son, Gary (Robin) Long of New London; three daughters, Tracey (David) Bonjour of Tucson, AZ, Lindsey Clark Wagner of Mt. Pleasant, and Kim Hester Mathews (Terri Hester) of New London; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Sandy) Long of Burlington, Carl Long of Idaho; and one sister, Katherine DeWolf, of Tucson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Dean Long.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 16, 2015 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Brad Cranston will officiate. Burial will be in Sheridan Cemetery, r...[more]
l Mt. Union, with Military Rites presented by the Henry County Honor Guard. Visitation will begin after noon on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the Chapel, with the family greeting friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. A memorial has been established.
