Catherine Grace Hardie, age 93 of Des Moines, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will take place on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. There will be a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Bishop Drumm Retirement Center and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com The daughter of Charles H. and Mary Cecilia (Burns) Tuffield, Catherine was born on February 8, 1922, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She graduated from North High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1939. She received X-ray Tech training at Mercy Hospital in 1941. She was united in marriage to Floyd "Vic" Hardie on October 17, 1942. Catherine was the first female x-ray tech at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. y. She volunteered at Colfax-Mingo Schools, the Colfax Senior Center; Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and at Bishop Drumm. Those left to honor her memory include her children, Tom (Mary) Hardie of Knoxville, Vickie Buehrer of Colfax, and Carol (Ned) Finney of Kansas City, Kansas; a son-in-law, Mike VanRees of Winterpark, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Melissa Daft, Chuck Buehrer, Molly Timmons, Mike Buehrer, Joe Buehrer, Josh Hardie, Katie Jordan, Theresa DuLong, Suzanne VanRees, Brian Finney and Beth Finney; 14 great grandchildren, Lydia, Mary, Katelyn, Jake, Kurtis, Keith, Madeline, Mikayla, Domonic, Andrew, Floyd, Charles, Sarah, Kathryn and Caydence and a sister, Patricia Henry of Lincoln, Nebraska. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 1972; a daughter, Eileen VanRees; two sisters, Frances and Mary Ellen; a grandchild; a great grandchild, Kyle and a son-in-law, David Buehrer.
