Jack P. Nielsen

Jack P. Nielsen, 90, of Fort Dodge, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Simpson Health Care Center, Friendship Haven. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be at Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites presented by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 1856. A visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jack is survived by his children, John (Christy) Nielsen of Fort Dodge; Kurt (DeAnn) Nielsen of Scottsdale, AZ; Paula Laughlin of Fort Dodge; Lisa Mitchell of West Des Moines; Shelley (Jay) Sanford of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Julia (Johnson) Nielsen; wife, Mary; brothers, Clifford and William Nielsen; sister, Joan Fletcher. Jack Peter Nielsen was born July 30, 1924 in Fort Dodge. He attended school in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School. g WWII and received his honorable discharge in 1946. He was united in marriage to Mary Augustine on December 8, 1950 in Richmond, VA. Jack worked along the East Coast on Natural Gas Conversion until the couple moved back to Fort Dodge in 1954. He soon after started Nielsen Electric with his brother, Cliff. In 1961, the family moved to Leesburg, FL and opened "Jack's Malt Shop." Eventually the family moved back to Fort Dodge, and Jack retired from Nielsen Electric in 1986.
